Building a chicken coop
Filed Under Home Construction | Leave a Comment
If you have decided to build a chicken coop on your own, then the first thing you have to consider is the place where your roosts and nesting boxes will be kept. Chickens do not lay eggs or even sleep on floor and that is why, you need to elevate your roosts and nesting boxes above the ground.
The nesting boxes should be below the roosts because they like to sleep at the highest level possible and if nesting boxes are above the roosts, they will ultimately sleep in them, rather than in their roosts. Another thing you should consider is that all the roosts should be at the same level; otherwise the chickens will start fighting among each other to sleep in the highest roost. Apart from being at the same height, they should be kept at least 10-12 inches away from each other, so that the chickens have enough space around them.
If you follow these important points, your chicken will be happy and comfortable and you will have more eggs each day.
