A Guide to Lighting Types

There are various types of lighting options that one can choose from to meet his/her needs. Among the most common types of lighting are:
Incandescent light – This type of lighting uses a filament to produce light. It is cheap to buy and is the most common type of lighting used in many homes. However, it has a disadvantage that it is not cost effective to operate. The most common types of incandescent lights are Standard Incandescent, Tungsten Halogen, and Reflector Lamps.
Fluorescent light – This is a much more energy efficient type of lighting as compared to the incandescent light. Here, light is produced by passing electric light through a tube that has inert gases. Tube fluorescent and compact fluorescent are the most common types of fluorescent lights.
High-Intensity Discharge – This is the most energy efficient type of lighting. They are capable of saving up to 90% of lighting costs as compared to incandescent lights.
