Outdoor stairs are subjected to heat, rain, snow, winds etc. Hence, outdoor stairs are generally made in materials that would be resistant to extreme weather conditions to ensure a long life for the stairs. An important aspect that should be considered while building outdoor stairs is that since they tend to get dusty and dirty very fast, the material and color used should be such that it is able to disguise the dust to keep it looking good.
The outdoor stairs that are used outside homes and buildings are generally made of stone or cement. These materials are quite durable and can stand the fury of weather. One more advantage of having a stone or cement staircase is that it would be fairly safe to use even when it is wet. The outdoor stairs can be narrow or broad depending on the kind of use that they are put to.
